Description

An exceptional pair of large French porcelain urns in the celebrated Sèvres style, richly mounted in finely chased gilt bronze (ormolu). Created during the Napoleon III period, these impressive vases embody the opulence and refined craftsmanship characteristic of the finest Parisian luxury production of the mid- to late-19th century. Each urn features a beautifully hand-painted romantic scene with cherubs set within soft landscape backgrounds, framed by lavish gilded ornamentation. The elegant baluster forms are enhanced by sculptural handles with classical female masks and acanthus motifs, while the domed lids are crowned with pinecone finials — a traditional symbol of abundance and immortality. The porcelain displays a luminous white ground with intricate gilt decoration, executed with remarkable precision. The richly modelled bases and mounts demonstrate the high level of collaboration between porcelain workshops and Parisian bronziers of the period. A striking and decorative pair, perfectly suited for grand interiors, mantel displays, or collectors of fine 19th-century French decorative arts.
