Description

A refined late-19th-century bust executed in alabaster with a contrasting bronze-toned drapery, depicting a young woman in a moment of serene introspection. The sculptor has rendered her features with remarkable softness: a calm, downward gaze, delicately shaped lips and a gentle, luminous complexion typical of fine alabaster.

Her hair is styled in an elegant, voluminous coiffure, secured with a subtle band and carved with fluid, natural movement. The drapery, cast or patinated in warm bronze tones, falls across her shoulders in deep, sculptural folds and is enriched with a finely patterned border. Her hand, gracefully positioned against the fabric, is modelled with exceptional finesse.

The bronze section carries the signature “Suteur”, while the alabaster portion is inscribed “W.G.”, indicating the dual craftsmanship characteristic of mixed-material busts from the period. The work is presented on a verde antico marble base, providing a harmonious and dignified foundation.
